Burgh House wedding | Megan + Patrick
Being a born and bred North Londoner, I’ve spent many a Sunday afternoon stomping around Hampstead Heath, definitely the best city park in the world (imho!). Megan and Patrick agree. They had their daily lockdown walk on the Heath as their romance bloomed, and so choosing a Hampstead venue for their nuptials was a no-brainer and I was over the moon when they booked me to document their Burgh House wedding.
With its beautiful oak panelling and grand piano, Burgh House is the perfect location for an intimate wedding ceremony and sit-down meal.
We all started off getting ready at the Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel in Russell Square. Megan with her mum and besties and Patrick with his mum and sister, who’d flown in specially from Canberra.
Then off to the cobbled streets of Hampstead Village for the ceremony at Burgh House. A Grade I listed building dating from 1701, Burgh House is also a museum with a permanent collection of artworks, documents and other objects relating to the history of the house, Hampstead Village and its residents through the ages. With its beautiful oak panelling and grand piano, it was a perfect location for the intimate wedding ceremony and sit-down meal that Megan and Patrick had planned.
The lovely ceremony began with live piano music and included a rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s Songbird by Megan’s friend Rachel. Megan carried a stunning bouquet of anemones arranged by Olivia Wilson at Wetherly Flowers, while the beautiful (and by all accounts delicious) cake was made by the excellently-named Punk Cakes.
Hampstead Village has a very distinctive atmosphere - a combo of hilly streets, red brick houses, cobbled roads and heritage street signs that sets it apart from other London areas. We had a fun portrait session around there before heading back to Burgh House for the wedding breakfast, cake and speeches.
This was my first full-day wedding since having a baby in 2021, and it went wonderfully on every count. Baby J was happily asleep when I got home, somewhat dead on my unaccustomed feet but truly happy to have been a part of such a lovely wedding day.
Congratulations to Megan and Patrick!
